Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges are often permanent restoration options for damaged or diseased teeth. A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely encircles remaining tooth structure or a dental implant. It is necessary to fabricate a crown when there is not enough healthy tooth structure remaining to support filling materials or when restoring dental implants.

Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth’s function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal, or when decay in a tooth has become so advanced that a large portion of the tooth must be removed.

In the event you are missing one or more teeth, we may suggest the use of a fixed bridge and dental crowns. Oftentimes, the gap left by a missing tooth can cause the remaining teeth to shift or move. If this is the case it is important for your oral health to replace the missing tooth or teeth. A fixed bridge is one of the solutions for doing so. In dentistry, a bridge consists of an artificial tooth and “crown”, which are ‘Bridges’ that go over the teeth on both sides of the bridge and serve as anchors to stabilize the bridge. Traditional bridges are usually made from porcelain fused to metal or ceramics.

A crown and bridge typically delivers comfort and convenience, as they are not required to be taken out and then put in back from time to time. If a crown and bridge is recommended for you, there will typically be many benefits, including speech, chewing, aesthetics and teeth spacing.
